Types of Copper Nickel Socket Welded & Copper Nickel Threaded Forged Steel Pipe Fittings
- Copper Nickel Elbows (90 Degree Elbows and 45 Degree Elbows) – A pipe elbow is a forged steel fitting installed between two lengths of pipe or tube allowing a change of direction, usually in the 90° or 45° direction. Similar to a reducing tee, reducing elbows also exist to simultaneously change flow direction and reduce flow diameter. Street Elbows have one female end to accept pipe and another male end thread that is the same size as the pipe and can avoid the use of a pipe nipple during installation.
- Copper Nickel Tees (Equal Tee and Reducing Tees)- Tees are a type of forged steel fitting used to combine or divide process flow, and Reducing Tees additionally allow for pipe size change. The run outlets of the tee are the two in-line outlets, and the branch is the third outlet. The branch outlet is the reducing outlet in a reducing tee.

What is Copper Nickel Alloy?
Cupronickel or copper-nickel (CuNi) is an alloy of copper that contains nickel and strengthening elements, such as iron and manganese. The copper content typically varies from 60 to 90 percent. (Monel metal is a nickel-copper alloy that contains a minimum of 52 percent nickel.) Despite its high copper content, cupronickel is silver in color. Cupronickel is highly resistant to corrosion by salt water, and is therefore used for piping, heat exchangers and condensers in seawater systems, as well as for marine hardware. It is sometimes used for the propellers, propeller shafts, and hulls of high-quality boats. Other uses include military equipment and chemical, petrochemical, and electrical industries.
Properties of Copper Nickel 90/10 and 70/30 Forged Fittings

- Copper-nickel alloys have excellent resistance to marine corrosion, strength and durability.

Difference Between Copper Nickel 90/10 and Copper Nickel 70/30
Copper-nickel alloy properties vary with composition. The two main copper nickel alloys are 90/10 (90% copper, 10% nickel) and 70/30 (70% copper, 30% nickel). The 70/30 is the stronger and has greater resistance to seawater flow, but the 90/10 will provide good service for most applications and, being less expensive, tends to be more widely used. Both alloys contain small but important additions of iron and manganese which have been chosen to provide the best combination of resistance to flowing seawater and to overall corrosion. Copper 90/10 and Copper 70/30 both show outstanding resistance to corrosion, particularly sea water; however, Copper 70/30 is stronger and has superior resistance to impingement corrosion. On the other hand, a slightly superior resistance to biofouling is exhibited by the 90/10 alloy.
