Features of ASTM A790 S31803 Seamless and Welded Steel Pipes

  • ASTM A790 specification covers both seamless and welded steel pipes with no addition of filler metal in the welding operation.
  • ASTM A790 S31803 duplex stainless steel pipe is a good stress-resistant chloride stress in the alloy duplex stainless steel. ASTM A790 S31803 duplex stainless steel pipe in the three duplex steel (2205 duplex stainless steel tube, 2507 duplex stainless steel tube, S31803 duplex stainless steel, stainless steel, Seam pipe) is the most widely used.
  • At the manufacturer’s option, pipe shall be hot-finished or cold-finished.
  • The specification covers seamless and straight-seam welded ferritic/austenitic steel pipe for general corrosive service, with particular emphasis on resistance to stress corrosion cracking. These steels are susceptible to embrittlement if used for prolonged periods at elevated temperatures. Heat analysis shall be made to determine the percentages of the elements specified.

  • Hydrostatic or Nondestructive Electric Test – Hydrostatic inspection test pressures for plain end and threaded and coupled pipe are specified. Hydrostatic pressure shall be maintained for not less than 5 seconds for all sizes of seamless and electric-resistance-weld pipe. Nondestructive electric test shall be made to make sure that the full volume of the pipe must be in accordance with the standard. The type of test to be used shall be at the option of the manufacturer, unless otherwise specified in the purchase order.
  • Transverse-guided face bend test
  • Tensile Test – This test is performed to check the mechanical properties of the pipe. For welded pipe, the strength of the weld should not be less than the strength of the pipe body.
