Introduction
Pipes are usually produced by two distinct methods which result in either a welded pipe or a seamless pipe. In both methods, raw material is first cast into ingots. It is then made into a pipe by stretching the steel out into a seamless tube or forcing the edges together and sealing them with a weld.
Seamless pipe, as the name suggests, is a pipe without a seam or a weld-joint. Seamless Steel Pipe is made from a solid round steel ‘billet’ which is heated and pushed or pulled over a form until the steel is shaped into a hollow pipe. The hollow pipe is then extruded through a die and mandrel combination to reduce the outside diameter and to expand the inside diameter.
Seamless pipe is a tubular section or hollow cylinder, usually but not necessarily of circular cross-section, used mainly to convey substances which can flow — liquids and gases (fluids), slurries, powders and masses of small solids.
Design
Seamless tubes are typically more light weight, and have thinner walls. They are used for bicycles and transporting liquids. Certain pipe characteristics can be controlled during production. For example, the diameter of the pipe is often modified depending how it will be used. The diameter can range from tiny pipes used to make hypodermic needles, to large pipes used to transport gas throughout a city. The wall thickness of the pipe can also be controlled. Often the type of steel will also have an impact on pipe’s strength and flexibility. Other controllable characteristics include length, coating material, and end finish.

Characteristics/Features
- Seamless pipe is thought to be able to withstand higher pressure, higher temperatures, higher mechanical stress and a corrosive atmosphere.
- Hollow pipe is far stiffer per unit weight than solid members.
- High precision can do small batch production.
- Smaller diameter.
- Weldability strong, high compression capability.
- Steel pipe superior performance, relatively dense metal.
- Steel Cross area is more complex.
- High precision cold drawn products, good surface quality.
- The thicker the wall thickness of the solution, it is really more cost effective and wise, the thinner the wall thickness, and its processing costs ill appreciate sharply.
- From the process of the product determines its limitations, from the general seamless steel pipe with low accuracy: wall thickness uneven, low brightness tube appearance, fixed length of high cost, and pitting in the appearance of black spots is difficult to bring go;
- Seamless steel pipe pressure and hydrostatic test is for pressure tube by into the hydrostatic test, which do not maintain the prescribed pressure value not less than 5 seconds, not to disclose, the regular supply hydraulic pressure test is 2.45MPa pressure The pressure test is P = 0.5MPa.
- The corrosion test: industrial corrosion-resistant steel pipe according to standard regulations or agreement between the corrosion of steel pipe corrosion resistance test, no intergranular corrosion.
- Seamless Pipes can be cold-drawn or hot rolled. Cold-drawn special-section seamless pipes are widely applied in the industries of petrochemical, boiler, automobile, mechanical, construction.
Advantages of Seamless Pipe
- Increased Pressure Ratings. Welded seam of steel pipe is the weakest link. However, since the seamless steel pipe has not been welded, it does not have seams, making it equally strong around the entire circumference of the pipe.
- Uniformity of Shape particularly on heavy wall sections and a lack of weld seams and increased structural integrity.
- Strength Under Loads
- There is greater ability to use multi-hole dies for diameter sizes that are smaller. This will decrease cost and increase productivity. There’s also better control of wall thickness.
